Shonto Begay is actively creating original artwork for his booth #3 at the 2025 Free Indian Market, which will take place on August 16 and 17 at Federal Park in downtown Santa Fe.
He has generously donated his painting, Free Market Monarch, to serve as this year’s signature image for the event.
Free Market Monarch, measuring 18×24 inches and painted in acrylic on canvas, will be auctioned off during the Free Indian Market Feast, scheduled for 6-8 PM on Friday, August 15, at the Hotel Santa Fe ballroom, located at 1501 Paseo de Peralta. This evening event aims to raise funds to support future markets that do not require booth fees.
“The Free Indian Market feels like a family gathering filled with art, laughter, color, movement, and joy—and it’s free,” Shonto explains. “It’s the one time each year I participate in a Native celebration that is accessible to the public and showcases vision and language.”
